The rhythm within: an internal view of avian migratory performance
We are delighted to announce that the next EGI seminar will be given by Dr Pablo Salmón from the Institute of Avian Research in Wilhelmshaven, Germany at 15:30 on Friday 6th November (Lecture Theatre 2).
Bird Migration is one of the most energetically demanding life-history strategies, requiring coordination across physiological systems. Emerging evidence highlights the gut microbiome and mitochondrial function as pivotal, yet underexplored, mechanisms underlying migratory performance. In this talk, I will present integrative findings from wild and captive songbirds on seasonal shifts in microbiome composition and their possible interactions with mitochondrial bioenergetics, oxidative stress and behavioural decisions during migration.
